According to Marca, UEFA have announced that they will change the kickoff times of Champions League games from the 2018-19 season.
Games commencing at 7.45 (UK and Ireland time) have become a staple of the competition, but the Spanish publication are reporting that European football’s governing body are to stagger the matches on each match night in order to maximise television audiences.
Under the new plan, the group games would still be played on Tuedays and Wednesdays, but half of the matches on each night will be played at 6pm, with the other half at 8pm.
European football’s governing body are hopeful that the changes will allow fans to see more live games than they would with matches all kicking off at the same time.
The announcement is the latest in a line of changes to the sport at the highest level, with FIFA currently considering drastic alterations to the World Cup.
